NEW DELHI, March 9 - Eminent writers, poets, thinkers, peaceniks and journalists from South and South East Asia will gather at Agra from March 13 to March 16 for the 29th SAARC Festival of Literature. The SAARC Festival of Literature is being organised by Foundation of SAARC Writers and Literature (FOSWAL). The Festival comes at a difficult times, when expectations from creative fraternity and right-minded peace activists have soared high in the aftermath of unprecedented terrorists attack on Mumbai.
The sensitivities of the creative fraternity across the SAARC region, particularly in India and Pakistan, are shaken and bruised, says Ajeet Cour, eminent short story writer and author, who is the driving force behind the Festival.
FOSWAL invites one and all to the 29th SAARC Festival of Literature, and urge them to join in the reaffirmation of the pledge of the creative fraternity to stand together for peace and tranquillity even in these times of terror and to celebrate the civilisation continuity of culture and creative writings of the entire SAARC region, said Cour.
The Festival will cover a wide range of themes from role of wordsmiths in times of terror to its impact on popular culture, prevailing conditions of chaos and confusion, exploring history, resolving ethnic angst, poetry recitations, and readings of short stories.
Some of the Indian writers, journalists, scholars, historians, academics, peace activists, who are attending the three-day include Mahashweta Devi, Dr. Kapila Vatsyayan, Gulzar, Abid Hussain, M J Akbar, Dr. Mushirul Hasan, Seema Mustafa. From Assam, Dr Indira Goswami is scheduled to participate in the literary gathering.
The deliberation are on ‘Trauma of Terrorism, Writers, Role of Writers, Terrorism and Civil Society, among other topics.
