Dear fellow linguist and/or North East Indianist,
This is to announce that the 5th International Conference of the North East Indian Linguistics Society will be held Feb. 12-14, 2010, in Guwahati, Assam. To present a paper at the conference, please send an abstract of no more than 500 words (exclusive of data and references, if any) no later than October 1, 2009 via email to *both* m [dot] post [at] latrobe [dot] edu [dot] au/" target="_blank">http://m [dot] post [at] latrobe [dot] edu [dot] au/<m [dot] post [at] latrobe [dot] edu [dot] au" target="_blank">http://mail.google.com/mail/h/uhxo0hkggt4a/?v=b&cs=wh&to=m [dot] post [at] latrobe [dot] edu [dot] au> *and* s [dot] morey [at] latrobe [dot] edu [dot] au/" target="_blank">http://s [dot] morey [at] latrobe [dot] edu [dot] au/ <s [dot] morey [at] latrobe [dot] edu [dot] au" target="_blank">http://mail.google.com/mail/h/uhxo0hkggt4a/?v=b&cs=wh&to=s [dot] morey [at] latrobe [dot] edu [dot] au> (.pdf preferred, .doc or .txt acceptable) or by snail mail to NEILS (address below). Notification of acceptance will take place in mid-to-late October. As the primary focus of NEILS is description of the rich cultural-linguistic diversity that exists in North East India, papers should have a primary descriptive component, preferably from a functional-typological perspective. Field reports are acceptable. Papers whose sole or primary focus is formal and/or theoretical in nature are unlikely to be accepted for presentation.
The revised fee schedule is *estimated* to be as follows, and includes lunch and tea/snacks on each day of the conference:
Rs. 250 Local student
Rs. 1250 Local non-student/International student
Rs. 2500 International non-student
In conjunction with the conference, the Department of Linguistics of Gauhati University will also be hosting a two-day workshop series (at no charge), from Feb. 10-11 at the Department itself. Workshops are primarily aimed at students, although non-students are also welcome to attend. Also in conjunction with the conference, a cultural excursion is planned (at extra charge), with details to be announced closer to the conference date.
A limited number of accommodation/meals packages at Don Bosco Institute will be made available to NEILS attendees. Final costs will be announced closer to the conference date, but are expected to be in the neighbourhood of Rs. 500/person/day, with discounts for double occupancy. Booking instructions will be announced in due course.
Please consult the NEILS website (address below) periodically for updated information closer to the conference date, or, for any individual questions, please contact m [dot] post [at] latrobe [dot] edu [dot] au/" target="_blank">http://m [dot] post [at] latrobe [dot] edu [dot] au/<m [dot] post [at] latrobe [dot] edu [dot] au" target="_blank">http://mail.google.com/mail/h/uhxo0hkggt4a/?v=b&cs=wh&to=m [dot] post [at] latrobe [dot] edu [dot] au> or s [dot] morey [at] latrobe [dot] edu [dot] au/" target="_blank">http://s [dot] morey [at] latrobe [dot] edu [dot] au/ <s [dot] morey [at] latrobe [dot] edu [dot] au" target="_blank">http://mail.google.com/mail/h/uhxo0hkggt4a/?v=b&cs=wh&to=s [dot] morey [at] latrobe [dot] edu [dot] au> .
